Currently all students are reviewing various phonological awareness concepts such as identifying rhymes and words that start/end with the same sounds, segmenting words into smaller units, such as syllables and sounds, by counting them, etc. We will also be reviewing parts of speech and grammatical conventions.
In Writing, both grades will be working on writing simple and complex sentences before focusing on a specific writing form.
Our class also began learning about 'The Daily Five' which is a framework for structuring literacy time so students develop lifelong habits of reading, writing, and working independently. Students will be introduced to five choices, beginning with 'Read to Self.'
